I’m Maggie Hayes

I’m Maggie Hayes, and I’m excited you’re spending some time on my site, which is dedicated to ensuring that children of all backgrounds and abilities have the opportunity to learn well.

Three years into my teaching career, I became a first-time mother. My son, Eric, was such a blessing and perfect to his father and me in every way, but we did notice that he seemed to have different needs and wasn’t quite “caught up” with other children his age in his speech and motor skills. At his 18-month checkup, our pediatrician referred Eric to a developmental pediatrician, who diagnosed him with autism. It changed everything for our family – in a truly wonderful way! Once we learned Eric was on the autism spectrum, we continued working with his developmental pediatrician and were able to learn how best to help him thrive, and I’m so proud of all the milestones he’s accomplished.

Eric also inspired me to take a more proactive approach to ensuring that all of my students’ needs are met inside and outside of the classroom. I’m passionate about finding ways to help the children I teach learn at their own pace in fun and engaging ways, and I work with my students’ parents to give them the tools they need to help their little ones continue learning in an accessible way at home.

My hope with this site is to reach students, educators, and parents beyond my classroom to encourage and inspire them to enable everyone to learn well.
